Our team knows that going to the dentist can feel a little intimidating (for kids and grown-ups!), so we take our time, use kid-friendly language, and focus on making each visit feel safe, calm, and even exciting. Whether it’s a check-up, a filling, or just a high-five for great brushing, we meet every child right where they are, with big compassion and even bigger smiles.

We also believe in caring for more than just teeth. That’s why we love getting out into the community, teaching kids about healthy habits, visiting local schools, and helping families feel confident about oral health at home.

Ngobitak Williamson, DDS, MA

At Playful Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Williamson believes dentistry is about more than healthy teeth—it’s about building confidence, creating positive experiences, and empowering families to take charge of their oral health.

Dr. Williamson’s journey into dentistry began with a strong academic foundation in public health and the mentorship of dental professionals who inspired her. As a first-generation Cameroonian-American, she saw firsthand how access to healthcare shapes lives. Her parents did not have routine dental care until coming to the U.S., and that experience instilled in her a deep compassion for families facing barriers to oral health. Today, she leads with that same compassion in every patient interaction, always seeking to understand and educate before she treats.

After earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine—where she also received a Master of Arts in Education through a dual-degree program—Dr. Williamson completed advanced training at Harlem Hospital (general practice residency) and Mount Sinai Hospital (pediatric dental residency). She is board-certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and was selected for the prestigious American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership. Her commitment to lifelong learning keeps her at the forefront of the latest research, technology, and treatment techniques in pediatric dentistry.

In addition to leading her practice, Dr. Williamson recently accepted a position as a Clinical Instructor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. In this part-time role within the Department of Dentistry, Division of Pediatric Dentistry, she provides hands-on clinical instruction to current dental residents. Her teaching focuses on comprehensive pediatric care, including behavior guidance, restorative dentistry, trauma management, and treatment planning—allowing her to shape the next generation of pediatric dentists while continuing her commitment to mentorship and education.

What Dr. Williamson finds most rewarding is watching children grow and thrive—both in confidence and in health. From helping little ones overcome dental anxiety to celebrating milestone visits, she is passionate about creating positive dental experiences that shape lifelong habits. To make visits comfortable, she and her team use gentle communication techniques, show-and-tell introductions to dental tools, and, when necessary, safe sedation options like nitrous oxide or IV sedation.

Outside of the practice, Dr. Williamson is deeply committed to community engagement. She partners with schools, libraries, and community centers to provide free oral health education and screenings, and she mentors aspiring healthcare students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Montclair was the natural choice for her practice—not only because of its diversity and proximity to New York City, but also because of its strong community and family focus. When she’s not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and children, exploring local parks, trying new recipes, and discovering Montclair’s vibrant food scene.
